John Kalina

John began dancing at age 3. His mother, Marie Shaw, was his primary instructor. He took an unexpected interest in dance and from there went on to study in New York, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Boston and LA. He has appeared in dozens of musicals, performed in regional theatre and worked as a professional entertainer, singer, dancer and Master of Ceremonies.

John began teaching at age 16 and is starting his 39th year in this capacity. Tap and acrobatics have been John’s love. He has had former students appear in Broadway shows, television, cabarets, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, cruise ships, and amusement parks across America. Five of his tap students have recently appeared in the national tour of the Broadway show  “42nd Street”. A Master tap instructor, he adds a professionalism that is hard to find anywhere.

Thomas Hanner began his ballet training at a very young age in Hollywood, Ca. When the Bolshoi Ballet visited the United States in the mid sixties, he was the only boy chosen amongst 300 young dancers to appear in the production of “Ballet School”, choreographed by Asaf Masserer. At the age of fourteen, he received a three year fellowship from the Ford Foundation to study in New York and at home in California.

Three years later, Thomas joined the San Francisco Ballet Company. Since his youth, he has performed in over 85 classical and modern ballets as a member or guest dancer. He has danced with twenty-one professional ballet companies and toured across the nation.
